Ingredients
2 slices bacon, cut into strips
1/2 cup onions, chopped
1 clove garlic, minced
2 (16 oz) cans navy beans, drained and rinsed
1 cup root beer
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 Tbs apple cider vinegar
1 Tbs molasses
1 Tbs tomato paste
1/2 tsp chili powder
1/2 tsp mustard powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
Directions
  1. Preheat oven to 350° F. Add bacon to a saucepan. Cook over medium heat until crisp. Use a slotted spoon to remove bacon; set aside. Leave the bacon grease in the pan. Add onions. Cook until soft and beginning to brown, about 5 minutes. Add garlic. Cook for 1 more minute. Pour in the beans and remaining ingredients. Add bacon. Stir, and bring to a boil. Pour into a baking dish, and transfer to the oven. Cook (uncovered) until liquid thickens and becomes syrupy, about 45 minutes.
